In the second stage CHAMBAL RIVER VALLEY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT a masonary dam at Rawatbhata “ Rana Pratap Sagar Dam “ in distt. Chittorgarh and along its left side a 172 MW Hydro Electric Power House was constructed. The Dam and Hydro Power Plant constructed in the second stage of Chambal project was named “ Rana Pratap Sagar Dam and Hydro Power Plant” in the memory and honour of the great warrior of Mewar the legendary Maharana Pratap.
|
The 172 MW capacity” Rana Pratap Sagar Hydel Power Station” is located in the Rawatbhata town around 7Km from the Bhainsroadgarh Panchayat Samiti on the left side of the Rana Pratap Sagar Dam. This place is situated around 50Km from the Industrial and Economical city of Kota . |
 |
For utilizing the depth a 70Ft. deep waterfall the water released from the Power House machines is discharged through a 40Ft diameter and 1.6Km long underground tunnel into the river.

Out of the Rs 40.65 Croes spent in the construction of Rana Pratap Sagar Dam and Power House in the second stage Rs14.74 croes were spent on the construction of Power Station. All the equipment of this power housewere imported from Canada under the Colombo Plan . There are 4units in the Power Station each of 43MW Capacity. The power genereation was started from these units as per following chart:-

|
PERFORMANCE: |
Though the firm capacity at 60% load factor is 90MW which gives an estimation of 4730 Lakh Units of Generation but due to the combined efforts since 41 years the average generation has been 4806 Lakh Units . In this period (1968-2008) the plant has generated a total of 1970 crores unit electricity. |
FUNCTIONAL IMPORTANCE: |
This plant play the most crucial role when there is disturbance in the Northen Grid . When the grid fails this power station provides the startup power for restoring the Northen grid . It also plays a major role in the routine times by providing stability to the machines of Rawatbhata Atomic Power Plant contributing to the stability of the grid.
